Welcome!

Greetings, I'm Fprime. Idk what I'm using this for, idk if I'll ever use it, but I'm a fan of the idea behind neocities and bringing back the old web as much as possible.

About me

Computers

I'm a computer science undergrad currently, I've enjoyed learning about computers, they've always intrigued me quite a bit. I enjoy building computers, though I rarely get to do that. I was first introduced to PC building when my home computer I used to play minecraft broke - it appeared to be a power supply issue. I bought a new PSU, plugged it in after much confusion with where the cables go, and upon hitting the power button a capacitor blew. The motherboard was fried, and there was no more home computer. Close to a year later I had finally collected the parts to build a new computer, around which time I took a keen interest in Linus Tech Tips videos and learning how to build a computer. I had that thing built in like 5 hours, and had to troubleshoot the BIOS for a good hour, but it worked! After that, I would help my friends in deciding what computer parts to buy, building their computers, troubleshooting/diagnosing, all skills which I carry with me today. I would genuinely love a career in IT, but I want to get my degree first to keep my options open I guess. I became interested in software after my hardware obsession, though I always thought programming was an interesting thing I wanted to learn about. I started learning how to code in C# one night and from that I was given the tools to begin understanding computing in a different way than ever before. I'd heard that computers were just 1's and 0's, and I knew basically that a CPU operated based on that data, but that alone doesn't really tell you much. Programming has helped me to understand the world in a different way, to see certain issues as systemic or as individual (they're usually systemic), to more critically assess information I'm presented with, to understand what it looks like when systems interact with each other, many different fields which all converge with programming and computer science. Even if my future career prospects are grim, I'd still be satisfied with the degree I'm pursuing, I think it teaches something important, and I find it to feel quite fulfilling.

Music

I've played guitar for over 8 years now, I started when we learned how to play in my middle school. I'm incredibly grateful for the music teachers at the school I went to, they were really awesome people and inspired me to learn how to play on my own. I enjoy metal primarily now, bands like Metallica, Lamb of God, Imperial Circus Dead Decadence, Avenged Sevenfold, and others. I do love melodic metal, which ICDD does very well as well as many other genres. I listen to all kinds of music, from breakcore to pop punk to anime eps to whatever else, I try not to judge music before I've listened to it, and I try hard to keep an open ear. Some of my favorite songs are the ones I can sing along with, which makes metal a bad contender in the car but I'll usually listen anyways, its good stuff. I don't have a lot to say about music that hasn't been said already, other than music recommendations, so I'll list some good songs below:

Video Games

I've been playing games since I was pretty young, but I was never exposed to a variety of titles in all honesty. I played minecraft a LOT, as well as cod, gta 4, and assassins creed. When fortnite came out I played it quite frequently, up until about season 5 I was a regular player. Me and a lot of my friends enjoyed playing it for awhile, I do miss how it used to be. After fortnite, I played osu for like a year and a half, I reached rank 60k globally, I thoroughly enjoyed that game but not so much anymore, I'm so out of practice that I can't even do simple stream maps without running out of tapping stamina, so I'll sometimes play for fun but I'll rarely get a good session in. I played valorant when it first came out, and have inconsistently played it ever since, peaking around diamond 1. I play controllers mainly.
